5 Ways to create a stylish garden space
Happy Sunday friends. I am currently trying to catch up on all the emails that have been sitting in my inbox since Monday, fold the laundry that has been sitting in the dryer for days, and prepare for two of my biggest home tour photoshoots to date. There have been so many big things in the works over here at Valerie Wheeler Interiors that I just can't wait to share with you all. But since I can't share all the juicy details just yet, I'm going to share some more sneak peaks of the outdoor styled shoot I held back in May when all of my husbands beautiful flowers were in full bloom! I'm a big believer that beautiful homes go hand in hand with a beautiful gardens. In design we are always pulling inspiration from nature. Bringing the outdoors, indoors became somewhat of a catch phrase in design school. So it got me thinking why not try and bring some more design and style to the great outdoors? Here are 5 Ways you can create more stylish garden spaces.
- Dedicate a section of your garden for cut flowers. Think of it this way, each month new flowers will bloom while others stay dormant. If you plan accordingly you can have beautiful blooms to fill your yard and home for a longer stretch. I like to plan tulips for April, peonies for May and hydrangeas for late June and July.
- Don't have a ton of green space? Container gardens are super simple way to add different varieties to your garden without taking up a lot of yard space. Try grouping your containers by color, so it looks more purposeful than just a collection of random pots and flowers.
- Bring on the basil. And mint, thyme, coriander, cilantro.... whatever herb that you are constantly grabbing at the grocery store can easily be planted in a large trough or bucket that you can keep outdoors during the warmer months and bring indoors before the first chill. Plus is it just me or does it feel way cooler snipping herbs from your own garden?
- Create groupings of threes. This is a favorite amongst interior designers when styling vignettes, but the same rule can apply for your exterior style. Try grouping similar pots in various heights and filling them with a mix of greenery and lush foliage for your front porch.
- Stop and smell the roses. Whats the point of a beautiful home and garden if you never have the time to enjoy it? I know I'm guilty of this, but when I truly make a conscious effort to slow down and take a walk around the garden with this guy, I'm always left so inspired by natures beauty. So enjoy that labor of love because soon enough it will be gone to old man winter.
