ORC Week 5 Mail Man I love you...
Mail man I hate you. Yup that pretty much sums up Week 5 of the One Room Challenge. We have been at a stand still this week waiting for the last of the deliveries to come in order to finish the bathroom. The vanity and sconces has arrived, which I thought were the only missing pieces until I finally had an AHA moment and realized I needed just one more stinking roll of London Rose wallpaper. Guess where the London Rose wallpaper actually ships from??? Surprise, surprise London. As in Europe. As in there is a 4 week lead before it actually makes it over to America. I might of justtttt made it had I realized this the first week of the challenge, but truth be told I have been such a scatter brain trying to wrap up this bathroom along with design clients, that it just slipped my mind. I tend to put my personal to buy list off until the last minute so theres really no one else to blame but myself, but GAHHHHHHHH the wallpaper is the main design feature! Couldn't I of forgotten to order the toilet paper holder instead? So since I have no pretties to share this week, I am going to leave you with a super simple, yet super necessary guide on how to make sure this mistake never happens to you.
1. Read the Roll Dimensions
Before you make a purchase be sure you check the wallpaper's dimensions. Not all wallpaper is made the same. The dimensions and vertical repeat should be listed along with how many square feet one roll covers.
2.Measure the square footage of your space.
In case you need a little refresher follow these simple steps to come up with your room's square feet.To calculate the square footage of your space, we recommend combining the width of each wall, then multiplying this number by your ceiling height. Next, divide this number by the square footage of a single roll of wallpaper to determine the number of rolls required. A good rule of thumb is to ALWAYS round up.
3. Add on for vertical repeat.
What is vertical repeat? The repeat of a wallpaper refers to the number of inches it takes before the pattern starts all over again. The distance between the starting point of the pattern to where that pattern starts over again is one repeat. It is also important to round up in square footage to allow for excess wallpaper to be cut if you need to create a new starting point from one strip of wallpaper to another.
4. Order it all at once.
Unless you are doing an accent wall, most rooms require more than one roll of wallpaper. Since wallpapers are made in batches it is important to order all the rolls that come from the same dye lot. Dyes may vary from one batch to the next so to ensure a cohesive color throughout your space make sure each roll you get is from the same dye lot!
