Spring Transition Pieces

[show_ms_widget id="36017651" image_id="41882301" width="800" height="1200"]Spring is officially in the air which means it's time to store those sweaters and give your wardrobe a fresh new look. One of my favorite ways to transition into a new season is with a new jacket. The moto jackets on the market this Spring are high on my work wear list. I love throwing a leather jacket over something floral to really juxtapose any look. With Highpoint Market quickly approaching, I've been on the hunt for comfy shoes that still look chic. If you are able to go more casual in your daily look mules are some of my favorite shoes to slip on in the Spring. I've been living in this Madewell jeans lately. They look great with a tucked in blouse for meetings or a simple tee. Also loving these slightly cropped jeans at Nordstrom's.

A Fall Color Story

Recently I had the privilege of attending The Scout Guide launch party at the Foxfire Farm in Monkton, MD. Steve Gambrel is the designer behind the stunning transformation of this historic breeding and training farm. The details of this home are absolutely mouth watering. I left inspired in so many ways to push the boundaries in my own designs. One thing that stood out to me in particular was the way the color palette of this home paid heritage to this homes history, but still breathed new life in this modern day space. Take a look at this home's exquisite details that inspired this month's color story. Cognac brown is my color of choice this season. Try mixing into your wardrobe with a soft brown cardigan or drape a wool blanket over an armchair. This color looks just as stunning in interiors as it does in your closet. While it may be a bold choice for an entire look, it pairs perfectly with black, raw neutrals or burnt orange.

The Kind of Coastal Cape Cod

You guys. I have big news. We are buying a house!!!! If you have been following along on IG or my newsletter you probably already know that a move has been in the works (if your not already following along, then what the heck are you waiting for?) We made an offer on an old cape cod right down the road from our current house. It was a very spontaneous decision. We only had a few weeks to get our current home listed and sold in order to snag this one. The past month has not been all sunshine and butterflies. As a designer I like to think that I am able to acknowledge the flaws in our current home with a sense of professionalism. But no matter how professional I may be, its no fun having strangers come into your home and tell you what they think is wrong with it! It's a long running joke in the industry that interior designers often act as marriage counselors and I am here to say that relators have it wayyyyyyy worse!!! But all drama aside, we are so close to closing on our house that I just couldn't wait a moment longer to share all of my design plans on the next fixer upper! Introducing #thekindofcoastalcapecod catchy hashtag, huh?

The Dollhouse Reveal...

Welcome to the Dollhouse! This reveal has been a long time coming. I am so excited to finally share this project with you! I call this house the Dollhouse for a few reasons. Mostly because its just so darn cute. My client decided it was time to downsize from her large waterfront estate to a quant cottage in Easton, MD. Our main focus here was to purge the pieces that no longer worked in this smaller space and find a home for her vintage pieces that held sentimental value. Persian rugs, silverware and one killer ginger jar collection made styling this space a dream. Using the blue hues from the ginger jars as our inspiration, the color story for this space unfolded quite naturally. Aged iron touches mixed in with warm browns, layer in just the right amount of farmhouse with a coastal touch. We bought all new furniture, light fixtures and window treatments to make this new build feel more like home. I love mixing in new pieces with vintage treasures to create a cozy lived in space. I hope you love the tour of the Dollhouse as much as I loved designing this sweet space.

Living in a Smart Home

Hello sunshine. Thank the lord the sun has come out from behind those never ending rain clouds. It is amazing what a little sunshine can do for your spirit. Well being has been a big topic in the design world lately. I for one am a firm believer that the environments we live in have the ability to elevate our moods. Or make your mood take a turn for the worse depending on the room's current state (ahem messy husband and kids). But living in an space that is is aesthetically pleasing is not the only happiness trigger. Your home has to work for you too. Ever heard the saying work smarter, not harder? Well the same holds true for design. There are so many products on the market that are all about making our lives at home a little bit easier... Like remotes that actually find themselves. Vacuum cleaners that vacuum on their own. And lights that can turn on and off when your not even in the room.
