DIY Holiday Wreath With Fresh Greenery
Store bought holiday wreaths are CANCELED. We are only making fresh wreaths from here on out! Making this holiday wreath was such a fun and festive activity to do during the weekend and it was easier to make than you'd expect! We were able to repurpose extra clippings from our garland and tree plus some clippings from trees in the yard for this wreath. Keep reading to see how you can make a fresh holiday wreath from home using fresh greenery that you probably have laying around the house this holiday season!
Here is what you'll need:
Boxwood Wreath
Fresh Eucalyptus
Tree Clippings
Fresh Garland
Fresh Magnolia Bunches (we ended up adding these last minute and they made a huge impact!)
Pinecones
Ribbon
Floral Wire
- We started by making small bunches of our featured greenery. We opted for long needle pine from our garland, fresh eucalyptus, extra clippings from our tree and magnolia bunches. Cut off approximately 8 inches of floral wire and wrap generously around the ends of each separate bunch of featured greens.
- Tuck the wired ends into the Boxwood wreath trying your best to camouflage the blunt end. Wrap the wire around to the back of the wreath and tighten. Be sure to then tuck the ends of the wire into the back of the wreath so they don't scratch up your door.
- Repeat this process all the way around, continuing to hide the wires.
- Once your desired design and amount of featured greenery is attached to the Boxwood base, you can add your pinecones.
- Again, cut off a long (approximately 8 inch) strip of floral wire. Creating a large 'U' shape with the wire, tuck the wire into the groves of the pinecone and tighten. You can then use the extra wire to attach the pinecones to the Boxwood base.
- Finally, attach a fluffy festive bow where ever your heart desires! We opted for a traditional centered bow, but you can go asymmetrical or place your bow draped at the bottom.
