HOSTING TIPS FOR A STRESS FREE HOLIDAY SEASON

'Tis the season for running around like a chicken with your head chopped off.... but it doesn't have to be that way! We recently shot with one of our favorite local publications, Annapolis Home, and shared with their readers how we throw a holiday party here at Valerie Wheeler Interiors. And it reminded us that we kind of have this whole hosting thing on lock, but it took some trial and error. So we are sharing our tips and tricks for throwing a great holiday party that everyone can enjoy (even the host)!

Tip #1: Pick recipes that can be made in advance like a casserole, lasagna or the lazy girls classic crock pot! One year for my moms birthday, I hosted for the whole family and thought gourmet pizzas would be a good idea, it wasn't. It was way too many steps and it left my guests sitting around hungry (remember the whole trial and error thing?). So dishes that can be made in advance (even the day before) and simply popped in the oven to warm  up are the move when hosting for a large group!

Tip # 2: Prep your bar cart! Set up your bar cart with an assortment of drinks for all ages along with different drink wear options. This way, your guests won't be opening all your cabinets looking for a water glass! During the holidays, we like to put out a seasonal treat like spiked cider or hot cocoa!

Tip#3: Set your table the day before! We like to prepare a whole table scape for our guests because we're just extra like that. It does take some time and effort but its worth it once you start receiving all those compliments on how Pinterest worthy your table setting is! To save time, set the table the day before so that the day of the party you can focus your attention elsewhere!

Tip #4: Serve it up buffet style! This way, not only can your guests pick exactly what they want and how much they want, but it'll be way easier on the host to not have to make everyones plates for them.

Tip#5: Little details make a huge difference! Things like fresh flowers, scented candles, and festive music are easy touches that set the mood and help create a great holiday scene!

Tip #6: Lastly don't stress it! The holidays are to be spent with family and friends so enjoy this time of year!

Be sure to check us out in the holiday issue of Annapolis Home and stay tuned for a full post on how we brought a festive tablescape to life that anyone can do for their home this holiday season!
