How We Put Together A Festive Tablescape

A few weeks ago we were asked to do a Holiday spread with one of our favorite local publications, Annapolis Home.  Since there are so many reasons to celebrate this season, we wanted to set a table that would translate into any celebration. We had so much fun setting this earthy scene with the Annapolis Home team. What was even more fun was pulling all the items  together in preparation. When designing homes for our clients, we always strive for approachability. This table is so simple to pull off we are here to share all the details to recreate the look in your home this Holiday season.

What you'll need:

-Fresh greenery and flowers (we went for deep, moody tones with Dahlias & Anemones)

-Candle sticks

-Festive fruits (dried citrus, pomegranate, pears)

-Antique flatware

-Linen napkins

-Metallic charger

-Matte black plates

-Textured stemware

-4-6 yards of loosely woven muslin cloth

-Velvet Ribbon

-Chalk marker

-Chalk paper

-Copper wire

-Glue

To start, we hit up our local grocery store to grab the pomegranate, pears and dried orange slices. Prior to the shoot, we made the chalk paper name tags for the pear place settings. For each tag, we simply cut two identical leaf shapes by folding the chalk paper in half. We then wrote out the names with chalk marker we found on good old Amazon. Then, taking the two cut out leaves, you sandwich a small strip of copper wire between the two pieces with glue. Once the tags are completely dry, stick the wire into the top of the pear and wrap the stem in velvet ribbon that coordinates with your florals.

For the linen table runner, we picked up some gauzy muslin in a cream color at our local fabric store. The fabric length will depend on the length of your table, but we wanted it extra long in order to pool off the sides. Once the runner is in place, we loosely placed  fresh greenery garland down the length of the table. Once the candlesticks where just so we simply tucked in our fresh fruit to fill in any gaps. Set the rest of the table with a mixture of mattes and metallics and soften with linen napkins. As for the stemware and flatware, we went shopping at Nanny's for some antique silver and family heirlooms! (SCORE!!) We love any excuse to break out the fancy silverware but if you don't have a set on hand we recommend checking your local thrift store.

We are so happy with how this turned out and love that anyone can try this out in their homes  for both Thanksgiving and Christmas or even New Years! If our holiday table scape inspires you, be sure to tag us in your photos with @valeriewheelerinteriors. And check out the holiday issue of Annapolis Home on stands now! Happy Holidays!
