How To Pick The Right Pillows For Your Living Space

Blue and White Living Room

If your family is anything like ours, you spend a lot of time binging Netflix in the family room. Over time, the couch pillows begin to wear and end up looking sloppy, and we can't have that. We recently switched out our old sorry throw pillows for some fresh and fun ones from our friends at Serena and Lilly! They have tons of style, size, and color options so you'll be sure to find the perfect fit for your space. Switching up decor pieces in your home like pillows and throws is such an easy way to elevate and freshen up your space. So for today's blog, we're sharing our tips and tricks for styling and picking the perfect pillows for your living space!

First you’re going to need to pick the sizing for your pillows, we personally like an oversized look! We start with our biggest pillow (between 22-24 inches) as an anchor in the back and level down as we move inward with our pillows.

PRO TIP: Don’t be afraid to over stuff your pillows! Nothing worse than a limp and sorry pillow. We often use a size up our inserts an inch or two for that perfect plush look.

Now let’s talk texture! We love to mix up patterns and texture. A good rule of thumb we like to stick to when mixing patterns is a large scale pattern, a small scale pattern and a solid or stripe to break things up. Don’t shy away from mixing more organic, floral patterns with straight lines and geometrics. The end result will look more curated rather than collected. In a more traditional spaces like #caneigetanamen, we kept things symmetrical to help enhance the focal point. But on a couch or sectional where the space is more spread out, we love to mix it up with sizes and prints. When is comes to chairs however, stick with one statement pillow or small lumbar, overfilling with pillows will make it seem uninviting.
