6 Home Projects To Do During Quarantine
These are some strange times. I felt especially strange trying to come up with a title for this blog post. School has been cancelled for another 4 weeks here in MD. I don't know about you, but if I'm going to survive 6 weeks of at home quarantine, my home better be in tip top shape.*Update Governor Larry Hogan just announced that Maryland is on a mandatory stay at home order until further notice. Praying life will be back to normal by May.
If I'm going to be completely honest here I feel as though I am full of (insert word of choice) giving out advice on how we are going to put on a happy face during this pandemic. I have spent the past 14 days feeling a mixture of sad, frustrated, anxious and slightly buzzed. I am not choosing to ignore my feelings about the current state that the world is in, or ignore the terrible suffering everyone else must be feeling, I am simply choosing to distract my self with more positive things. Despite all of these mixed emotions, I am a person that thrives on having a plan. Making a plan for your house is something that takes a lot of time and creativity. We might not have a lot of control over things on the OUTSIDE right now. But we do have control over how we spend our time on the INSIDE. A serene interior space is your escape from the overworked, overstressed & over committed life we have all grown accustomed to. Now is the time to reclaim your home life. You know those things about your house that drive you crazy but you were too busy to work on before? Now is the time to change the energy in your home environment, reconnect with the people you share it with & create some new stories to be shared. Here are 6 Home Projects To Do during COVID19 Quarantine to make your home feel less like a prison and more like a safe haven.
1. Make a Moodboard
The perfect way to spend you day is dreaming of what to do next to your home. What do you do with all of those pretty spaces your saved on Pinterest? Create a moodboar to stay inspired! Canva is my favorite website to start curating your ideas into one pretty layout. Simply drag your photos to the upload window, customize your fonts and be sure to have some fun dreaming up all your future DIY Projects. Here is an example that I have been working on for our house above. We start each design project here at VWI with a moodboard & sample selections to help express the design intent for each space. It's such a fun way to hone in on your unique style & create something beautiful!
2. Paint a Room
We said it once and we'll say it again, we are really, really good at picking out paint. If only we were as good at the actual painting part. Lucky for us we have plenty of time to perfect that skill & luck for you the hardware stores are now offering free curbside paint pickup! Why wasn't this a thing before?! We are still offering online paint consultations if you need help picking out the perfect shade for your room or whole house if you feel so inclined.
3. Plant a Garden
One of the first things we did as a family when the threat of COVID19 got real was plant a vegetable garden. We have planted plenty of gardens before but this one felt extra special given the circumstances. There is something so therapeutic about getting outside and digging in the dirt to clear your mind. Bonus: Have the kids help you pull weeds and plant the seeds for their "outdoor school" lesson.
4. Organize Your Papers
You know all the stacks up school papers and bills you've been letting pile up on your counters? Well now is the perfect time to find a place to put them! Pro/Mom Tip: Create a file for each child's special school work that's worth saving and ditch the rest. Sign up for all the E-Statements for bills you can pay online and create a Dropbox folder for each one so you can ditch the paper copies.
5.Rearrange a Room
There's no better time to clear every surface in your house and put things back again. Go for a walk & snip some cherry blossoms to fill a vessel. Bust out your old books and remove the covers to make a uniform coffee table book collection. Anything to mix things up a bit! Pro Tip: When styling a vignette arrange you decor in groups of three to create a more visually pleasing aesthetic. Symmetry, natural touches & a touch of whimsy make the best styled spaces.
6. Hang some Photographs
What better time to get all those special photos off of your phone and on your walls?! We just hung our family gallery wall after a year of them sitting in boxes (never complaining about being to busy again BTW) and I can't tell you how happy it makes me when I walk down the hall and see my children's chubby little baby faces staring back at me. Pro Tip: When hanging your gallery wall cut out the size of the frame on craft paper & arrange your grid on the floor before taping to the wall. Measure the nail holes on the back of the frame and match the spacing to the paper so when you are done the frame slides seamlessly onto the hook.I hope these projects help you find comfort and a new found appreciation for your home. Thank you so much for stopping by our little corner of the internet. We promise to serve you with all the at home inspiration you can handle while we all navigate these new waters. Stay healthy, safe & strong. Be sure to share your projects with us at #VWIathome we love seeing what you do!
