At Home with Serena & Lily
In the spirit of being stuck at home, I thought it would be fitting to share with you all the design plans we have at our own home #thekindofcoastalcapecod. If you missed my last post about our home you can read all about it HERE. Again when life throws me stressful situations, I seek solace in design. Our home has been stuck in the fixer side of upper for the past 18 months. Lack of time has been our biggest culprit. With work, school and the never ending sports shuffle at a complete standstill we FINALLY have the time to focus on making this house feel more like home. We were planning to participate in this Spring's One Room Challenge, which has understandably been postponed. Since the design boards are already done, I wanted to share our Sunroom plans with you anyway. This look was inspired by Serena & Lily's newest outdoor line the Gardener collection. My heart skipped a beat when I opened the designer circle email and saw the image above. It is literally everything I love about design... timeless, approachable and drop dead gorgeous with a touch of European influence.[show_shopthepost_widget id="3977312"]
Our Garden Design has a lot of English influence. Think pea gravel paths, boxwood borders and alfresco dining at its finest. Our sunroom is simply an extension of our outdoor space so we decided to tackle this space as we landscape the yard. Currently there is a large maple tree growing way too close to the sunroom. Once that tree is removed, we will be grading the area and laying our pea gravel garden. I am so unbelievably excited about this! Growing up my Grandma's house had the sweetest little gravel garden. There was an old wrought iron table set that we used to dine alfresco with her homemade mayo and friend bologna sandwiches. She was an artist who traveled to England every summer to paint. I don't think I ever realized just how amazing this was at the time. She would travel overseas alone just to sit in some charming bistro and paint the people passing by. It's funny how much influence she has on me as a designer, even though I never knew it while she was still alive. I rediscovered and old love for English design. I should have known this all along (I mean I did name my daughter London) but for some reason I forgot that part of me. So despite this mix of emotions about the world, I find myself feeling thankful for the time at home to reflect. I hope our exterior design & sunroom can be half as charming as my Grandma's was. Be sure to join us as we post more progress of our home renovations. It may be slow moving but we have nothing but time on our hands. Take this time to make home your safe haven for you and your loved ones. Whether that means a big project or finally hanging up those family photos. Surround yourself with those sentimental touches, I promise it will brighten your day!
