DIY Christmas Scroll
Did you guys get a chance to check out all of the Cheerful Christmas Home Tours?! I love a good excuse to peek inside my favorite bloggers homes. I always leave with so many wonderful ideas for my own home. One idea from my Sweet and Simple Christmas Tour that was a big hit is this DIY Christmas Scroll. So I wanted to put together a little DIY tutorial on how to recreate this scroll for your home. Be sure to grab your FREE PRINTABLE at the end of this post. Really, you can use this tutorial to create any calligraphy scroll, but seeing that its almost Christmas I wanted to create one for my home using the lyrics from O' Holy Night. If you prefer a different song simply follow these 4 Steps to create your own DIY Christmas Scroll.
Step 1) Create Your Lyrics.
I use Canva for all of my blog graphics. You can grab a free version here. After measuring my wall space, I created a custom 24"x 36" document in Canva. I typed the first part of the lyrics on page 1 and then the rest of page 2. Making sure there was an even amount of lines on each page, I then aligned the text on Page 1 to the right and Page 2 text to the left, so the words met in the middle once the signs were printed. 
Step 2) Gather your supplies.
Once I had the scrolls saved, I took them to Office Depot to print and cut to size. I highly recommend having them cut the scroll in store. There is nothing worse then jagged lines when you try to trim paper with out the proper paper cutter. Then I headed to the Home Depot to purchase 8 wood slats. The wood slats can also be cut to size in store if your not handy with power tools. I had mine cut to 24" so they lined up perfectly with my scroll. I also grabbed 16 1/2" wood screws and a spool of twine while I was there.
Step 3) Assemble the Scrolls.
Lay your scrolls on a flat surface and sandwich each one between 2 wood slats. The scrolls should be the exact same width of the slats so no cutting is necessary. Using a 1/2" wood screw, simply drill two holes 2" in from each side. Repeat for the bottom slats. Make sure to pull the bottom of the scroll taunt before screwing in the second slat so your scroll does not bubble out when hung.
Step 4) Hang the Scroll with twine.
I inserted additional screws on the backside of the slats to wrap the twine around. DO NOT drill these screws all the way through. These are only an anchor to wrap the twine around, so the signs can hang evenly with a clean finish. Make sure to measure your twine before you cut so each sign is symmetrical. You can always use a hot glue gun to glue the twine in place. Now all you need to do is find your stud to place your finish nail and hang your DIY Christmas Scrolls.
