I'm Dreaming of a White Kitchen

This time last year, we were knee deep in drywall dust installing my dream kitchen. We started out home renovation just before Thanksgiving thinking we could get it all done by Christmas. Our cabinets had just been installed a week before Christmas and the marble was on its way, but we came down with a nasty stomach flu and could not finish everything like we had hoped!! Looking back we were a bit crazy thinking we could pull this renovation off in time for Christmas, as my punishment I was completely deprived of my decorating bliss.  This year there was no holding back. The kitchen really is the heart of our home and I could not be happier with how it turned out. I like to keep things clean and simple. Touches of greenery from Willow Oaks Farm along with some pretty Christmas cookies from Sugar Butter Love was all I needed to make the kitchen feel festive. If I could pick a favorite piece in the kitchen, it would hands down be my Jacqueline Chandelier. Setting a tablescape around this beauty served to be a bit of a challenge with our low ceilings.  Without lots of height for a dramatic center piece, I decided to make this a fun space for the kids to gather, eat some cookies and make their own DIY Christmas cloche. You can find a full tuturial on how to make them for under $5 here.

Pops of Pink for Christmas

The living room is directly off of the kitchen so naturally this room needed a whole new look once the kitchen was complete. I tend to favor lots of neutrals with pops of blush pink in my home decor, so thats exactly what I did here!  Its so easy to go over board when getting your home holiday ready, so I like to take pieces that I already have and find new ways to incorporate them into my Christmas decor. One thing I did buy this year is the 9' Flocked Christmas Tree from Wayfair. It may be one of those trends that everyone is doing but you know what, I don't care! She is just soooo stunning in person. With an all white backdrop, the tree needed lots of sparkle. Keeping things simple, I only used silver ornaments, with feather balls I found at A.C Moore and blush ribbon from Michaels. I spent way too much money at those two stores back when I was in design school, so I just saved up all of my reward points and bought everything when there was a good sale!!! The sweet little reindeer wrapping paper was a free download from one of my favorite home blogger, Ms. Craftsberry Bush. I purchased the matching reindeer pillow from her as well. With all of these sweet touches, I still felt like I needed to add a bit of vintage to the mix. My mom seriously delivered when she brought me a box of paper village houses that she inherited from my Grandpa. These houses date back to the 50's so it really is a bit of a Christmas miracle that they are still in good condition. The pink and greens on these vintage gems are a match made in heaven with my Christmas color scheme.

Cozy up by the Open Fire

This room has had many identities throughout our time here in this home. We have used this space as a dining room, playroom and now our family room. Since our house is on the smaller side, I have to be creative when it comes to space planning so that it does not become over crowded.  This room often becomes the clutter catcher for our family, so I decided to clear out all of the surfaces that we mindlessly place things on and create a simple space to cozy up around the fire. Our whitewashed brick fireplace was once a red brick wall with a bulky wood stove insert jutting out like a sore thumb. Now that it is whitewashed its so much easier to decorate, everything just seems to look better on the mantel! The juju hat is one of my favorite Etsy home finds and is on sale right now here. When creating an all white space its so important to add texture so that your room does not come across as too sterile. Fur stockings, throws and plaid prints are my favorite seasonal items to integrate to warm up any space. My walls felt a bit bare so I created these DIY calligraphy scrolls to add a bit of festive cheer. Trust me when I say I am not a DIY pro! I usually get frustrated by a project and leave my husband to finish it. But these scrolls were so easy to make even I couldn't screw them up! I am going to create a separate post on how to make your own but in the mean time grab your free O Holy Night printable HERE. The brass etagere is one of my favorite Birch Lane pieces. Styling shelves can be a bit tricky for some but I personally love a good challenge. When styling shelves I like to place my items into groups of 3's. I also like to create symmetry with similar sized items so if you were to draw an imaginary line down the center each side would feel balanced. Many items in this room are on sale for Black Friday so be sure to check out the links below!
