Living in a Smart Home

Hello sunshine. Thank the lord the sun has come out from behind those never ending rain clouds. It is amazing what a little sunshine can do for your spirit. Well being has been a big topic in the design world lately. I for one am a firm believer that the environments we live in have the ability to elevate our moods. Or make your mood take a turn for the worse depending on the room's current state (ahem messy husband and kids). But living in an space that is is aesthetically pleasing is not the only happiness trigger. Your home has to work for you too. Ever heard the saying work smarter, not harder? Well the same holds true for design. There are so many products on the market that are all about making our lives at home a little bit easier... Like remotes that actually find themselves. Vacuum cleaners that vacuum on their own. And lights that can turn on and off when your not even in the room.

Legrand Lighting Solutions

Design is in the details. We've all heard the saying. One of my favorite design details is obviously lighting. Lighting has the power to instantly transform any space from mediocre to show stopping. Take my Jacqueline chandelier for example. There is a reason I post this angle every 9 squares on my Instagram. It stops you in your tracks, a detail that can't be missed. Most people consider this element of design when designing a space. But one element that unfortunately often goes unnoticed are the light switches that makes these beautiful fixtures work.

Rooms We Love Tour, A Glamorous Entrance

Hello sweet friends! Welcome to the Rooms We Love Tour. If you are coming from Lauren's blog over at House of Hire, you are in the right place here at Valerie Wheeler Interiors. Now my room is not an actual room per say, its more of an entry wall, that leads to the rest of our house. I almost didn't share this space because to be quite honest I didn't think it was anything special. I think as a blogger/creative, doubt can creep into our lives in more way than we care to admit. But one thing I never want to doubt is all of the hard work we put into our home. This little wall has seen it all, blue tiled floors, 1980's yellow beige paint, popcorn ceilings, you name it! But one thing that has remained constant since our time in this house is that mirrored table. She was the first piece of furniture I EVER BOUGHT FOR MYSELF! My taste has changed as our home has evolved, but this entry table is still one of my favorites.

A Valentines Day Brunch for Two

Welcome to our Valentines Day at Home Blog Tour. If your coming from Rachel's tour at The Porch Light Cottage your final stop today is right here at Valerie Wheeler Interiors. I'm so glad you made it all the way through the tour. I'm sure your mind is just flooded with all of the Valentines Day inspiration these awesome ladies have put together this year! Valentines Day can be so overwhelming sometimes, trying to pick the perfect gift, the perfect dress and of course the perfect spot for date night. Since my hubby and I NEVER get any alone time without the kids, I wanted to set up something special at home for just the two of us while the kids were at school. I went all out setting a fancy table, and buying our favorite treats. Of course the kids were feeling a little left out, so I promised them first dibs to this DIY Donut hole tower that I put together for the occasion. Now if you've been here before you know how much I love pink. I mixed in my favorite blush glassware with a little bit of gold and ranunculus to create this table scape. It really helped set the romantic mood. Without further ado, here is my sweet little Valentines Day Brunch for Two. I hope you find something inspiring to share with your loved ones this Valentines Day!

Sundays at Home

Happy Sunday loves! This week zoomed by me, between client meetings, installs and the blog collaborations, I swear I blinked and it was over! I wanted to do a little informal post to update you on whats been going on behind the scenes here. Since I work from home, most days are usually spent in yoga pants in front of a very messy desk, sipping on cold coffee. My Nespresso machine has been life changing, its crazy how much quicker the caffeine hits me compared to a traditional coffee maker. You know what else has been life changing? Body suits. My gym sessions have been pretty non-existent this month so needless to say I've been feeling a little blehhhh. Now I'm not a huge fan of tight fitted tops, but these bodysuits from Tobi.com are my one exception. They suck me in all the right places, without completely cutting off all circulation. I've been living in them on the weekends. And to all my Mom friends out there, no more pulling your pants up over your pooch! Heres a little round up of my favorite finds this week. If you'd like to see more of my weekly favorites, drop me a line below and I'll throw together some more Sunday rounds ups like this one. Sometimes life is just too busy for me to go all out and get things photographed, but I still have so many fun snaps and random thoughts to share with you all! I hope you all have a great week. Thanks for reading xoxo.

One Room Challenge Week 2

Welcome back to week 2 of the Fall One Room Challenge!

So its been 8 months since our powder room caught fire at my daughters birthday party. For those of you who don't know the scoop on the fire you can catch the whole story here. Besides fire restoration clean up and removing the damaged drywall things have come to a screeching halt. I have a design plan in place, but I'm having the worst time finding a 30" vanity at a relatively reasonable price point that I loveeee. I know what I like and what we can afford, but naturally what I like is never what we can afford!! Also I'm pinching pennies these days since we just remodeled our kitchen, replaced all the floors and all the stucco ceilings on on the first floor. The bathroom is the missing piece to make our remodel complete, so it kind of worked out that we have a good reason to remodel it! No I did not set the powder room on fire on purpose... Im not that crazy despite what my friends may think. Since the main floor is mostly white, I decided to paint the doors leading into the basement and powder room gray. I fell in love with this London Rose wallpaper from Anthropologie years ago and I just happened to grab a roll while I had a 20% off coupon. Man I love it when Anthro has their 20% off days...

Since I tend to lean a little more of the glam side when it comes to my home, I decided to jus things up with this venetian mirror and the prettiest ballerinas prints I ever did see. I hope you like it!

One Room Challenge Fall 2017

Yup, there you have it. My daughters last birthday party went up in flames, literally. My Turkish towel was burnt to a crisp and I vowed to never burn a candle in the bathroom again (but I do still decorate with them, cause I'm a sucker for shiny things) Luckily my super hero mom instincts kicked in and the fire was quickly extinguished before it could spread. No one was hurt or even traumatized by all the smoke. Well except for me... and my bathroom that has been sitting in a half finished state since February. Usually I don't sit on projects for 8 months but I have good reasons for this delay.

Fall Home Finds

October is finally here. The true start of Fall in my books. Which means its time to buy an obnoxious amount of pumpkins for the front porch and hope they don't rot by Halloween. I've been so inspired by this color palette lately so I thought I'd put together a little mood board of all the home finds I have been loving for Fall. I don't know what it is about this cow print from Minted, but he makes me want to join the 4H. Throw in some soft camel leather (hello oxymoron) washed woods and plaid... and you got your self a whole new look for Fall. Happy shopping and thank your for reading!

Happy Easter Monday! Is it just me or does Spring Break take way too long to get here and then whiz by way too fast?! Marble vs Quartz Part 2

Hello loves! I have been getting a ton of questions on Instagram lately about my countertops and it reminds me that I never did a follow up on my Marble vs Quartz debate (you can read Part 1 of the great debate here). I decided to go with honed Volakas marble from In Home Stone with a Dupont edge. We have been living with it for close to 2 months now and you know what? I FREAKING LOVE IT!!! You CAN live happily with marble... even with three little ones. I swear I had at least 18 different people tell me that I was crazy for wanting marble when I was designing our kitchen. Most of them were fellow design students or contractors. I was so conflicted. I knew I would never be able to recreate the natural beauty of marble with the manufactured quartz. I was just so worried that I would be a freaking psycho about the countertops if we went with Marble. I am happy to report that this has not been the case whatsoever!! Yes I have had my moments, like the time when my husband left the wet bottle of Dawn soap on the counter over night, I might of had some choice words for him the next morning ;) But for the most part even if there is a blemish or a spot on the counters I just wipe it up with warm soapy water and the spot completely fades once it is dry. Not sure if thats the sealant working its magic or if marbles really isn't as fussy as everyone makes her out to be. But its kind of cool to watch the watermarks magically disappear. I do have two rings by the sink but I swear you only notice the if you bent down just right and squint. Not a big deal, right? Here are my tips for taking care of your marble countertops. They're really not as scary as some might think.

London's Love Fest

This week I wanted to share a little party I threw for my youngest, London. She is turning 3 next week and since February is such a crazy month for us, I decided to combine her birthday party with Valentines Day. Target had so many cute decorations this year that it really came together pretty quickly! I already had most of the Valentines decorations up (you can read that post here) so all that was left to do was put together a kid friendly menu and set up the cookie decorating station. Since I knew there would be a few little ones attending, I decided to clear to playroom so they had room to roll and get diapers changed:) Plus it was the perfect floor space for the short lived hot potato game we attempted! The big kids had fun taking pictures with our silly photo props, decorating heart cookies and consuming way too much sugar. All pictures were taken during the quiet before the storm by the lovely Tracy Marshall... and when I say storm I really mean fire! I swear every year we have something catastrophic happen at a birthday party. And this year takes the cake... we actually had a mini house fire when all the guest were arriving! A hand towel in the bathroom had fallen into a candle that I had lit on the sink. The whole entire turkish towel was burnt to a crisp by the time I ran in with the fire extinguisher. Luckily no one was hurt or too spooked by it so we aired out the house and kept the party rolling. It just goes to show that all the party planning in the world is never enough when it comes to throwing kid parties. So please enjoy all the pretty pictures below knowing that my life is and always will be complete chaos. But as long as the kids are happy I'm not complaining:) Thanks for reading and Happy 3rd Birthday to London Joan!
