Mother's Day Flowers
Happy Mother's Day to all you hard working Mommas out there! I woke up this morning to Lucky Charms with all marshmallows picked out, cold coffee and the sweetest little smiles on my three children's faces. They woke up extra early to surprise me with breakfast in bed and a box of chocolates, which they later informed me was on sale, buy one get one free. So I did not have to share! This holiday always comes with mixed feelings for me. Spring is always a chaotic season in our life and truth be told Mother's Day is no exception. My husband works tirelessly growing the beautiful flowers you all like buying for your Momma so much. If you follow me on Instagram you've probably seen me stealing some blooms from the greenhouse to incorporate into my designs. In my opinion having a beautiful Home and a beautiful Garden just go hand in hand. So in honor of Mother's Day, I put together a Mothers Day Flower Guide with the Grower himself. Here are our top picks for Mother's Day Flowers.
The Best Flowers for Mother's Day
- Peonies: Nothing beats a bouquet full of peonies. But the cost per stems can get a little high. For the cost conscious Mom consider buying a peony plant instead. These perennials flower every Spring and just get bigger with time.
-
Dahlias: These beauties look stunning indoors and out. Dinner plate Dahlias are having a major moment on Pinterest and its easy to see why. Our potted Dahlias are in full bloom now, but its not too late to plant for summer. Dinner plate dahlia tubers can be planted now and will flower mid to late summer.
- Hanging Baskets: My husband's personal favorite. Nothing creates an instant impact like a beautiful hanging basket. Easy to care for, hanging baskets are our most popular item in the Spring. A good rule of thumb when finding a combination basket is to make sure there is filler, thriller and a spiller.
-
Herb Garden: Is your Mom a big fan of cooking with fresh herbs? Try making a DIY herb garden for her kitchen. Simply plant a variety of herbs in a shallow trough and make sure they have a nice sunny spot to grow in. My favorites herb combo right now is rosemary, mint, thyme and basil.
-
Topiaries: Create instant symmetry for her stoop with topiaries. I prefer to flank our front door with sculpted boxwoods, mixed with a shade loving flower, while my husband likes the look of Mandevilla topiaries. Both are beautiful options, but at the end of the day, Mom is always right.
I hope you found some inspiration for your Mom's garden this Spring. There is no better time than now to start growing a beautiful garden that will flower for years to come.
