One Room Challenge Fall 2017

What happens when you combine a bunch of 3 year olds, lots of sugar and a poorly placed bathroom candle?

Yup, there you have it. My daughters last birthday party went up in flames, literally. My Turkish towel was burnt to a crisp and I vowed to never burn a candle in the bathroom again (but I do still decorate with them, cause  I'm a sucker for shiny things) Luckily my super hero mom instincts kicked in and the fire was quickly extinguished before it could spread. No one was hurt or even traumatized by all the smoke. Well except for me... and my bathroom that has been sitting in a half finished state since February. Usually I don't sit on projects for 8 months but I have good reasons for this delay.

  1. The cost of  cleaning up the remnants of the fire cost a pretty penny, and we had just remodeled our kitchen and main living area. So the money train had left the station and was not coming back any time soon.
  2. Me and my big ideas. Of course it would be simple to just replace the melted mirror, slap on some paint and replace the burnt vanity top. But why would I do that when I can redesign the entire bathroom?! And maybe even reconfigure the layout so the bathroom door no longer opens awkwardly into our dining space. There is nothing less appetizing then watching your 5 year old poop with the door open when you sit down for dinner. You can also see directly into the bathroom from our back door, which is the primary door the kids use when they run in and out to play with the kids next door....howdy, neighbor!
  3. I'm a big fan of the One Room Challenge and if I am going to be completely honest I was secretly holding out until I could participate this Fall! If your not familiar with the One Room Challenge keep reading...

The One Room Challenge was started by a fellow design blogger, Linda of Calling it Home. Along with House Beautiful Magazine and some pretty awesome sponsors, she gives 20 Featured Design Bloggers 6 weeks to completely transform a space. You can check out the progress (and set backs) every Wednesday here. The line up this Fall looks amazing,  I promise you won't be disappointed with the results!  I will be blogging as a guest participant this challenge so be sure to check here every Thursday for design plans, progress shots and hopefully a beautiful final reveal on November 9th. You can also follow along on Instagram @oneroomchallenge and @housebeautiful for sneak peeks on all of the rooms being transformed this Fall. And with that I'll leave you with some pretty little pictures that  have inspired my design for this Fall One Room Challenge as well as some not so pretty before pictures of the bathroom in its current state. Don't judge me...

Note the hideous water mark on the wall? Well just our luck, it appeared after the fire clean up was finished and the new drywall was put in place. Praying once we open the wall back up its a minor repair and not a $$$$ one!

My plan obviously includes some wallpaper, a little bit of brass and a whole lot of glamour. I can't freaking wait. Be sure to check back next week for all of my design plans and hopefully some progress shots. Thanks for reading! xoxo, Val
