My Home on Style Me Pretty!
There are few things in life that are on my bucket list, that I have actually been able to check off. I am ecstatic to announce that having my home featured on Style Me Pretty Living is officially one of them. Words can't describe how giddy I was when the Mecca of all things design and style reach out to me and asked if they could feature my home on their blog. Krista A. Jones worked some serious photography magic capturing my home for this tour. You can see the full gallery over on Style Me Pretty Living... or check out my Portfolio for even more. I'm still a bit speechless so I'm just gonna sign off here and leave you with the good stuff. Please Pin your heart out!
The 3 Best White Paint Colors
What color white should I use? I can't tell you how many times I hear that question! And the truth is, it really depends on the room your painting. While I may be impartial to the all white trend (have you seen my kitchen?) nothing makes an instant impact like a fresh coat of white paint! I do have my go to whites that I use in my home and my clients homes. Here is a little round up of all my go to white paints and where you can use them in your home.
Sunday Recap and a Few Good Things
Happy Father's Day! Tonight was one of those nights where I felt the itch to blog. I look forward to catching up on my favorite blogs while the house is all sleeping at night. It's one of my guilty pleasures.... it's also one of the main reasons for these dark circles under my eyes. Lots has been happening around here. Heres a quick recap of this past week.
The Dollhouse Reveal...
Welcome to the Dollhouse! This reveal has been a long time coming. I am so excited to finally share this project with you! I call this house the Dollhouse for a few reasons. Mostly because its just so darn cute. My client decided it was time to downsize from her large waterfront estate to a quant cottage in Easton, MD. Our main focus here was to purge the pieces that no longer worked in this smaller space and find a home for her vintage pieces that held sentimental value. Persian rugs, silverware and one killer ginger jar collection made styling this space a dream. Using the blue hues from the ginger jars as our inspiration, the color story for this space unfolded quite naturally. Aged iron touches mixed in with warm browns, layer in just the right amount of farmhouse with a coastal touch. We bought all new furniture, light fixtures and window treatments to make this new build feel more like home. I love mixing in new pieces with vintage treasures to create a cozy lived in space. I hope you love the tour of the Dollhouse as much as I loved designing this sweet space.
March Madness and Life Lately
This month was a doozy. I can't believe its almost been a month since I blogged last. But I promise it has been for good reason! I have so many new projects in the works that I haven't shared much about. So heres a little round up of my latest designs to keep you up to speed!
Legrand Lighting Solutions
Design is in the details. We've all heard the saying. One of my favorite design details is obviously lighting. Lighting has the power to instantly transform any space from mediocre to show stopping. Take my Jacqueline chandelier for example. There is a reason I post this angle every 9 squares on my Instagram. It stops you in your tracks, a detail that can't be missed. Most people consider this element of design when designing a space. But one element that unfortunately often goes unnoticed are the light switches that makes these beautiful fixtures work.
A Valentines Day Brunch for Two
Welcome to our Valentines Day at Home Blog Tour. If your coming from Rachel's tour at The Porch Light Cottage your final stop today is right here at Valerie Wheeler Interiors. I'm so glad you made it all the way through the tour. I'm sure your mind is just flooded with all of the Valentines Day inspiration these awesome ladies have put together this year! Valentines Day can be so overwhelming sometimes, trying to pick the perfect gift, the perfect dress and of course the perfect spot for date night. Since my hubby and I NEVER get any alone time without the kids, I wanted to set up something special at home for just the two of us while the kids were at school. I went all out setting a fancy table, and buying our favorite treats. Of course the kids were feeling a little left out, so I promised them first dibs to this DIY Donut hole tower that I put together for the occasion. Now if you've been here before you know how much I love pink. I mixed in my favorite blush glassware with a little bit of gold and ranunculus to create this table scape. It really helped set the romantic mood. Without further ado, here is my sweet little Valentines Day Brunch for Two. I hope you find something inspiring to share with your loved ones this Valentines Day!
Blush Home Accents
Love is in the air. Well almost in the air. As I sit and plan my February calendar I can't help but get excited about all things pink. Next week Im joining a Valentines Day Brunch Blog Hop with some super talented ladies. I'm going all out setting the table for the occasion. But if your like me, leaving your table set isn't always practical. If I'm going to be completely honest, today was the first day I could actually see my table beneath all of my paperwork and kid paraphernalia. So if your looking for some other ways to sprinkle this perfectly pink hue into your home decor, here are some of my favorite blush home accents. Thanks for stopping by, I hope you all enjoy the last weekend of January. I for one will not miss it.
Trend Watch Wednesday
Did you guys get a chance to check out my top picks for 2018 Design Trends? If not do not fret you can read all about that here. Really there are a lot of things in design I have been crushing on lately, so I decided it time to bring Trend Watch Wednesday back! Trend Watch Wednesday is something I started way back when my blog was just a baby. Its really just my place to share with you all my favorite pins, inspiration and trends that I think you need in your life. This week's trend watch caught my attention years ago when I saw this pink lady gracing the cover of my favorite shelter magazine. Feathers by Paule Marrot has been on my radar ever since. Now you all know I love a good pop of pink, but you know what I love even more? Vintage art prints. Nothing gets my design juices buzzing more than art work that looks as though its been ripped right out of a sketch book. And that is essentially what Paule Marrot's entire collection for Natural Curiosities is.
Top Design Trends of 2018
Well its official Pantone just announced 2018 colors of the year.... ULTRA VIOLET. Yup you heard me right. Violet. I'm really not sure how I feel about this one. I realize there are some die hard purple people out there but I'm just not one of them. But with each year brings new change and there are some really great changes happening right now in the design world that I'm excited to share with you. Just like with any industry there are ebbs and flows are to whats "hot" and whats not. While I'm a big believer in timeless spaces, I think you can still have fun with trends as long as you are layering them in ways that can be easily changeable. Would I suggest painting your whole house ULTRA VIOLET? No. But would I suggest grabbing a soft velvet throw pillow in this hue? Absolutely. So with that little disclaimer here are some of my top design trends for 2018. And do me a favor a pin the guide on the bottom if your loving these design trends as much as I am. One of my 2018 resolutions is to get my Pinterest account up to snuff and I'd appreciate any Pinterest love I can get:)

Holiday Gift Guide for the Home Decorator
The Christmas Elves were busy working their magic this weekend. My flocked Christmas tree from Wayfair arrived last week and can I just say how freaking gorgeous it is?! I couldn't wait to get this beauty up. I'm only 5'2" so I was a bit nervous to put a 9 foot tree together solo, but it was actually surprisingly easy to pop into place. If you follow me on Instagram you might of heard that I am participating in my first every Christmas Home Tour. Its so crazy getting the house fully decorated before Thanksgiving!! I thought for sure my family would think I've officially lost mind but it actually has the opposite effect. I'm officially the coolest Mom ever for decorating the house before any one else. The kids have been running around in their Christmas sweaters and watching Home Alone all weekend!! I love it!! With all the Holiday cheer going on around here, I wanted to share my latest Holiday Home picks. Perfect for the home decorator on your list, or maybe yourself;) I know I have bought a thing or two for me this year. One Room Challenge Fall 2017
Yup, there you have it. My daughters last birthday party went up in flames, literally. My Turkish towel was burnt to a crisp and I vowed to never burn a candle in the bathroom again (but I do still decorate with them, cause I'm a sucker for shiny things) Luckily my super hero mom instincts kicked in and the fire was quickly extinguished before it could spread. No one was hurt or even traumatized by all the smoke. Well except for me... and my bathroom that has been sitting in a half finished state since February. Usually I don't sit on projects for 8 months but I have good reasons for this delay.
Fall Home Finds
October is finally here. The true start of Fall in my books. Which means its time to buy an obnoxious amount of pumpkins for the front porch and hope they don't rot by Halloween. I've been so inspired by this color palette lately so I thought I'd put together a little mood board of all the home finds I have been loving for Fall. I don't know what it is about this cow print from Minted, but he makes me want to join the 4H. Throw in some soft camel leather (hello oxymoron) washed woods and plaid... and you got your self a whole new look for Fall. Happy shopping and thank your for reading!
Coastal Cape Cods
Cape Cods have always had a special place in my design heart. When we were just 23 my husband and I purchased a quant little Cape Cod of my dreams. It had dormer windows with planked walls and one tiny bathroom for all to share. It was tiny but it was mine and I loved it! We only lasted there a whooping 4 months before we had to move for work, which in hindsight was probably a good thing since we popped out 2 more kids shortly after. Can you imagine 5 people sharing 1 bathroom?? Umm no thanks. Anyway, ever since we made the move to our now cookie cutter house, I have been yearning for some architectural details in my life. And these Cape Cods do not dissapoint. Shiplap galore, washed wood and white on white details are what my coastal loving dreams are made of. Here are some of my favorite Cape Cod homes of Pinterest lately.
Welcome Home
I'm so excited to share with you the launch of Valerie Wheeler Interiors! For those of you who followed my previous blog...Olde Town Style, thanks so much for sticking with me through all the changes. And for those of you who are brand new to the blog...welcome!! I wanted to share a little recap on how Valerie Wheeler Interiors came to be. During my years as a SAHM my love for interior design really manifested into a full blown obsession. So much so that I decided to go back to school when I was pregnant with my third child to become an interior designer…
Marble vs Quartz Part 2
Hello loves! I have been getting a ton of questions on Instagram lately about my countertops and it reminds me that I never did a follow up on my Marble vs Quartz debate (you can read Part 1 of the great debate here). I decided to go with honed Volakas marble from In Home Stone with a Dupont edge. We have been living with it for close to 2 months now and you know what? I FREAKING LOVE IT!!! You CAN live happily with marble... even with three little ones. I swear I had at least 18 different people tell me that I was crazy for wanting marble when I was designing our kitchen. Most of them were fellow design students or contractors. I was so conflicted. I knew I would never be able to recreate the natural beauty of marble with the manufactured quartz. I was just so worried that I would be a freaking psycho about the countertops if we went with Marble. I am happy to report that this has not been the case whatsoever!! Yes I have had my moments, like the time when my husband left the wet bottle of Dawn soap on the counter over night, I might of had some choice words for him the next morning ;) But for the most part even if there is a blemish or a spot on the counters I just wipe it up with warm soapy water and the spot completely fades once it is dry. Not sure if thats the sealant working its magic or if marbles really isn't as fussy as everyone makes her out to be. But its kind of cool to watch the watermarks magically disappear. I do have two rings by the sink but I swear you only notice the if you bent down just right and squint. Not a big deal, right? Here are my tips for taking care of your marble countertops. They're really not as scary as some might think.
Design Details...
I'm past due on a renovation update of our kitchen. Weeks 3 & 4 zoomed by and everything went exactly as scheduled so we were all set for cabinets delivery this week! And oh my gah I have never seen so many boxes in my life. The kids are enjoying themselves with this box utopia, I on the other hand and wondering how to heck we are going to install all of this and clean up in 5 days?! Oh and unpack, place and install all the appliances that are being delivered on Friday. I know I planned this to be completed by Christmas... but what the heck was I thinking?! Our Christmas tree actually looks ridiculous sitting on top of floor covering, surrounded by cardboard kingdom. So to distract myself from my sudden urge to purge ALL OF THESE BOXES, I wanted to share with you all the other fun details I have planned for the surrounding spaces. The whole first floor just feels so open now that wall is out, I added on some more design details to the front living room and back dining/playroom to make the whole house more harmonic. First up, paint colors! It's no secret that I have become smitten with the all white interiors popping up all over Instagram lately, but I always stayed away from white since my walls were so jacked up and white is not at all friendly with drywall bumps. (Think about how your 30 year old butt might look squeezed into those white jeggings you wore all the time in high school... the cellulite would have no where to hide!) But now that my walls are all smooth and toned (unlike my butt) I can totally paint them white because my walls no longer have flaws. The entire back of the house will be painted BM Chantilly Lace in Eggshell for the walls and Satin Pearl for the trim. Here are some similar looks in this color:
