Top Design Trends of 2018

Well its official Pantone just announced 2018 colors of the year.... ULTRA VIOLET. Yup you heard me right. Violet. I'm really not sure how I feel about this one. I realize there are some die hard purple people out there but I'm just not one of them. But with each year brings new change and there are some really great changes happening right now in the design world that I'm excited to share with you. Just like with any industry there are ebbs and flows are to whats "hot" and whats not. While I'm a big believer in timeless spaces, I think you can still have fun with trends as long as you are layering them in ways that can be easily changeable. Would I suggest painting your whole house ULTRA VIOLET? No. But would I suggest grabbing a soft velvet throw pillow in this hue? Absolutely. So with that little disclaimer here are some of my top design trends for 2018.  And do me a favor a pin the guide on the bottom if your loving these design trends as much as I am. One of my 2018 resolutions is to get my Pinterest account up to snuff and I'd appreciate any Pinterest love I can get:)

 Muted Tones

It's no secret that we all love white kitchens, 2018 is the year of the white kitchen reinvented. We still love white and bright but in a less obvious way. Think lighter grays, off whites and white washed woods. Painting cabinets in hues like robins egg blue, sage green and navy add a fun pop of color without completely overwhelming your workspace.

Natural Elements

Natural Elements are making a major comeback in interior design. Raw oak floors have been dominating the flooring industry as of late. The key here is mixing your natural elements for a California cool aesthetic.  Salvaged wood beams, steel frame windows and exposed brick are our favorite permanent ways to incorporate these natural beauties. If your looking for a less permanent way to incorporate natural elements into your space, try mixing a jute rug underneath a salvaged wood coffee table topped with a geode or two.

Mixed Metals

We have been loving this trend for a while now, and alas appliance makers are finally getting on board. Mixing brass with silver helps create a more eclectic look within the same space. Our only rule of thumb is keep it to 2 or 3 metals. We also like to keep similar metals on the same visual plane so your eyes can rest easy. This French range is the perfect mix of timeless and trendy. You can also try this trend out at home simply by switching out some light fixtures or  cabinet hardware.

Sage Green

This soothing color has been popping up everywhere from laundry rooms to offices and its easy to see why. I personally love this shade painted on furniture. But I can only imagine the soothing affect it must have covering your bed. Mixed with a cane back bed and some eucalyptus, and your bedroom becomes an instant spa oasis.

Ceiling Detail

The ceiling has been a long forgotten element of design. 2018 is the year where we encourage you to look up. From custom decals, to lacquered paint and tongue and groove details, the options really are endless.  Pratt & Lambert has a great selection of paints that come in super high gloss like the hallway pictures above.

Indoor Plants

What better way to breath life to your interiors than with house plants? Fiddle figs, succulents  and potted herbs are a great way to invite the outdoors into your home. Take a look at the next catalog you get in the mail. How many rooms do you see pictured without any house plants in sight? I bet you the answer is none. Creating green spaces is easy with the right amount of sunlight and a little TLC. If your like me and were born with a black thumb there are tons of super cute artificial options too.
