London's Big Girl Room

It has been a while since we updated you on the progress of our personal home renovation. Like most small business owners we have been so busy working on serving our clients, that we have neglected to take care of ourselves. The time has finally come to start renovations on The Kind of Coastal Cape Cod and we could not be more excited to share all of the details with you!

In our experience with home renovations, we always recommend living in the space for some time before deciding which spaces to tackle first. Living in the space not only gives you a feel for the home itself, but how your family flows and what is essential to renovate first in order to keep your sanity during construction. We ALWAYS recommend setting up space in your home to retreat to when construction gets hot and heavy in your home. Not everyone has the luxury of living off site during construction, so an "escape room" of sorts is so important!

We have decided that in order to keep the peace during the extensive renovations our home needs, we are going to tackle the  bedrooms first and foremost. The layout of our new house has the kid's bedrooms upstairs and the master addition on the first floor. We tend to gravitate towards the master bedroom addition during the day and at night. Which is wonderful for those lazy summer days but school is just around the corner and we need some structure back in our days (and nights!)

The first and only thing  we have ordered for The Kind of Coastal Cape Cod was this gorgeous Raw Oak bed from Ave Home. We love sourcing from this vendor for clients, so it was a no brainer that this bed was going to be the focal point of London's bedroom design. Since this house is most likely our  forever home it was important  to design spaces that were able to grow with the children over the years. Timeless furniture is always included in our designs. This bed is no exception.

We wanted to keep things youthful with the artwork in this space. When London hits the town the girl can not go anywhere without being asked "Where did you get that pretty red hair from?" So when we saw this  little redhead on Artfully Walls we knew we had to have it in her new room.

Rifle Paper Co can do no wrong in our book and this rug is no exception. Sweet, subtle and affordable are always high on our list when sourcing for kid friendly spaces. We are big believers in buying rugs with the intent to be replaced once the kids have had their way with them. While this rug is drop dead gorgeous, it does not break the bank.  Winning.

You know what else can do no wrong in our design book? Serena & Lily. Coastal chic is the overall vibe we are striving for in The Kind of Coastal Cape Cod and Serena & Lily is the epitome of just that. We have a set of these swinging chairs in our sunroom and the kids love them so much we are going to bring one into London's room too!
