And with the Holiday season quickly approaching, we are all going to need to switch things up when it comes to how we celebrate! Welcome to part one of our #belairstyle home tour. We have been working with this family since the start of Valerie Wheeler Interiors and we must say it's bittersweet finally being able to share the project with the world! This home had some amazing bones when we were brought in. She just needed some fresh color, architectural touches and lots of styling to get her to where she is today. The details in the formal living room are hands down some of our favorite so we will be starting this two part home tour with the formal living room. The walls were given a fresh coat of our favorite shade of blue Parma Gray by Farrow & Ball. The fireplace got a bit of a facelift with a new marble surround. In the spirit of being stuck at home, I thought it would be fitting to share with you all the design plans we have at our own home #thekindofcoastalcapecod. If you missed my last post about our home you can read all about it HERE. Again when life throws me stressful situations, I seek solace in design. Our home has been stuck in the fixer side of upper for the past 18 months. Lack of time has been our biggest culprit. With work, school and the never ending sports shuffle at a complete standstill we FINALLY have the time to focus on making this house feel more like home. We were planning to participate in this Spring's One Room Challenge, which has understandably been postponed. Since the design boards are already done, I wanted to share our Sunroom plans with you anyway. This look was inspired by Serena & Lily's newest outdoor line the Gardener collection. My heart skipped a beat when I opened the designer circle email and saw the image above. These are some strange times. I felt especially strange trying to come up with a title for this blog post. School has been cancelled for another 4 weeks here in MD. Since this living room is still waiting for her big debut, we thought it would be fun to share the design process while we wait for the finishing pieces. This color palette has been showing up pretty frequently in our interiors and our closets lately. Soft blues, milky whites and lots of texture can be dressed up or down in for an effortlessly elegant look. Rattan has been huge in interior design lately and we are starting to see it trending in fashion too. We love sharing how fashion affects our interiors and the way we choose to dress our space. February might not be our favorite month around here... hello gray skies and winter. But all gray skies aside, we are here for all the flowers! Especially when February flowers come in the form of wallpaper. Now this look is nothing new to the design world, but there is a new way of adding a touch of chintz in a modern interior space. Here at VWI, we strive to create well curated designs, mixing dainty details with traditional touches that take our spaces from feeling frilly too sophisticated. In the Dining Space above, our client did not want seams to show, which is often a setback of using wallpaper. In order to get the chinoiserie look without using a wallpaper, we teamed up with a local artist to create a hand painted chinoiserie walls instead. A few weeks ago we were asked to do a Holiday spread with one of our favorite local publications, Annapolis Home. Since there are so many reasons to celebrate this season, we wanted to set a table that would translate into any celebration. We had so much fun setting this earthy scene with the Annapolis Home team. What was even more fun was pulling all the items together in preparation. When designing homes for our clients, we always strive for approachability. There are few things we love more in life than a fresh home reveal! This tour might take the cake as the most coastal chic house we have designed to date. Our client initially reached out to Valerie Wheeler Interiors with a paint color crisis. Thank goodness the original gray was a bit too purple or else we might not have met this adorable family of six. Our team swept in to help pick all new paint colors, lighting, hardware, furniture, window treatments and decor to bring this outdated 1980's colonial back to life. Our texture loving client was all about the woven details. From the consoles to the dining chairs, we layered in cane, rattan & jute with a touch of blue for a California cool meets East Coast elegance aesthetic.
